Job SummaryProvides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding medication use and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescriptions are accurately compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified according to regulatory guidelines and company policies. Manages pharmacy workflow, improves financial results, manages inventory, and enhances patient experience. Leads pharmacy staff performance, engagement, and professional development through training and coaching.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Experience
- Engages patients and offers assistance with products and services.
- Models customer service best practices and shows care through greeting, eye contact, and courtesy.
- Anticipates needs and proactively offers services, increasing awareness of available health and wellness services.
- Participates in community events as requested by Store Manager or District Manager.
- Counsels patients about medicine use, side effects, interactions, and generics, and refers to a medical provider when necessary.
- Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
- Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications accurately.
- Ensures pharmacy compliance with regulations, company policies, and Good Faith dispensing policy.
- Oversees staff scheduling, assigns roles, coordinates activities, and solicits team suggestions.
- Manages opening and closing procedures and shift changes.
- Supports pharmacy staff and patients with technology, finds productivity improvement opportunities, and processes insurance claims accurately.
- Provides clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing.
- Manages pharmacy department maintenance, housekeeping, equipment, and layout.
- Prepares required records and reports per state and federal laws.
- Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and compliance with employment laws.
- Sets expectations and goals, fosters teamwork, and recognizes staff improvement through rewards programs.
- Manages performance reviews and identifies high‑potential team members.
- Maintains morale and addresses employee relations concerns.
- Maintains required licensing, credentialing, and certification.
- Stays current on pharmacy and healthcare knowledge through journals and Walgreens communications.
- Completes education credits and training modules as required.
- Seeks professional development via feedback and mentor coaching.
- Supports Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness services to pharmacy staff.
- Analyzes pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory, and identifies performance trends and improvement opportunities.
- Develops relationships with local medical community and promotes pharmacy business growth.
- BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited institution.
- Current pharmacist licensure in applicable states.
- Certified immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire.
- At least 1 year experience in pharmacy, including prescription filling, record‑keeping, legal compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.
- Strong working knowledge of controlled substance laws.
- Leadership performance review rating of at least 3.0 and no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates only).
- Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff work.
- At least 6 months experience with Walgreens.
- Leadership performance review rating of 3.7 or above (internal candidates only).
