**** Summary
* * The Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education.

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for expeditious and accurate performance of routine clinical laboratory tests and basic clinical laboratory functions.
** General Hours of Work
*** Rotating shifts with weekend/holiday involvement
** Education and/or Experience
*** For Medical Lab Scientist;
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and completion of NAACLS accredited Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) program, or a Bachelors degree and one to two years of experience/training acceptable to the NCA or ASCP at the Clinical Laboratory Scientist/MT level.
* For Medical Lab Technician;
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Six months to one year related experience and/or training preferred.
** Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
*** Certification as a MLS or CLS from a nationally recognized credentialing agency for Laboratory professionals (NCA, ASCP, AMT) or obtain within 6 months of hire.
** Essential Functions
** For Medical Lab Scientist;
* Responsible for the day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including but not limited to: supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc.  Initiates and follows through with corrective action.
* Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals.
* Communicate laboratory data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments and individuals in an accurate and timely fashion.  Includes verbal as well as electronic means.
* Critique, correlate and differentiate results of tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals.  Assess the validity of results which appear usual, or which may differ significantly from previous results or expected values.
