Who We Are
Antheia is a science and technology company developing next generation plant-inspired medicines. Applying synthetic biology, genomics, bioinformatics, data science, and fermentation, we harness the most beneficial molecules from plants to create active pharmaceutical ingredients in more controlled economical ways. We are a close-knit team inspired by the possibilities of delivering transformative technologies and breakthrough science to change the course of medicine.
We value our people as our most important resource and are always looking for talented individuals who can make valuable contributions to our efforts.
The Scientist in Strain Engineering is a highly motivated scientist working to engineer microbial strains for the production of valuable natural products. They have a strong background in DNA assembly and genetic engineering techniques as well as microbial metabolism and physiology. The ability to communicate well and to interact with others in a small, dynamic and fast-paced environment is essential.
Responsibilities- Engineer microbial strains for the production of valuable natural products
- Design and evaluate expression and activity of new enzymes and entire pathways
- Develop and test metabolic engineering strategies to improve key performance metrics
- Evaluate engineered strains in small scale assays and work closely with the fermentation team to validate strains in tanks
- Critically evaluate data to understand how strain genotype effects small and large scale performance and physiology
- Develop and/or introduce new methods to increase throughput and efficiency of DNA construction and genetic engineering
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Doctorate in molecular biology, microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering or a related field, or Masters with 7+ years of industrial experience
- Proven track record of genetic engineering of microorganisms
- Solid understanding of yeast and microbial metabolism, physiology, and fermentation
- Experience with diverse microbial hosts preferred
- Experience with high-throughput screening, directed evolution, CRISPR/Cas9 and advanced cloning techniques preferred
- Experience with enzyme engineering and biochemistry preferred
- Experience with natural product biosynthesis, enzymology, and characterization a plus
- Comprehensive compensation package, which includes annual bonus potential and equity opportunities
- Paid time off, in addition to company-observed holidays
- Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
