The Ethel Walker School is seeking a full-time English teacher beginning in August 2026 who is eager to immerse themselves fully in the life of a boarding school community. This role is ideal for an educator who views teaching, coaching, and residential engagement as interconnected and essential components of student development. Candidates must be comfortable or willing to learn how to integrate new technology and culturally sustaining and responsive pedagogy into the classroom, and they must strive for a student-centered approach that helps students embrace process and growth.
Candidates should also be comfortable teaching (or willing to learn to teach) courses across our 7-12 grade curriculum, and teaching our four main genres: fiction, poetry, drama, and creative nonfiction. We are especially seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about coaching and who understand athletics as a powerful space for leadership, resilience, and character development among girls.
- Teaches a full-time load of four classes in Middle and Upper School
- Coaches two seasons of sport.
- Serves as advisor to 6-8 students
- Participates in residential life.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
- Varsity volleyball assistant
- JV volleyball assistant
- JV field hockey head coach
- Varsity squash head coach or assistant
- Varsity lacrosse assistant
- JV lacrosse head coach
Candidates should demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all rules and the ability to scaffold skill development and game strategy effectively.
Assistant CoachCandidates should have a working understanding of the game’s rules and fundamental skills. Playing experience is preferred for both positions.
Qualifications- Holds a Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred).
- Has secondary school teaching experience and/or experience mentoring, coaching, or teaching adolescents.
- Demonstrated experience with coaching athletics (school-based coaching strongly preferred).
- A desire to live and work in a residential school environment.
- Is committed to fostering a learning environment engineered for girls.
- Believes athletics and co-curricular life are central to adolescent growth.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (both written and oral).
- Possesses a strong work ethic.
- Has familiarity with the needs, objectives, and mission of an independent college preparatory school.
- Is committed to professional and personal growth.
- Brings energy, flexibility, and a sense of humor to campus life.
