Overview

Camp:
June 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026. Monday through Friday;
Hours vary. Entry Level position, 15 years and older. CPR, First Aid certified by June 15th.

Under the direction of the Camp Director and/or Assistant Camp Director, the Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising a wide variety of activities at the camp/playground ranging from athletics and games to arts and crafts.

Supervised by:
Recreation Director, Program Coordinator, Camp Director and/or Assistant Camp Director.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts a diversified program of activities for ages 5-15.
  • Stimulates interest in and directs a variety of competitive and non-competitive recreation activities.
  • Inspects camp/playground and equipment, and recommends maintenance repair work as necessary.
  • Responsible for issuing/collecting equipment.
  • Reports disciplinary problems to the Director and acts accordingly.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to the Director regarding the overall program.
  • Attends trainings required by the Culture, Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of leadership techniques, as well as skills in planning, organizing and supervising recreation activities for varying sizes of groups.
  • General knowledge of wide variety of recreation programs, as well as skills in communication and public relations, since the Camp Counselor is a representative of the Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Must be able to work effectively with both program participants, as well as other staff members.
  • Should have a thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Must be physically able to participate in all program activities with program participants.
  • Must be 15 years of age or older
  • Must be CPR/First Aide certified by June 15, 2026
