Swim Lesson Instructor II

Job OverviewAs a Swim Lesson Instructor II, you will lead swim lessons, swim league programs, and other aquatics activities, ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and lead assigned swim classes with structured instruction, appropriate methods, and necessary equipment.
- Introduce new skills, drills, and progressions to keep lessons dynamic and support ongoing development.
- Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to participants or their parents about progress and areas for improvement.
- Greet and welcome participants at the start of each class to create a positive tone.
- Respond promptly to all member and guest needs or concerns, escalating unresolved issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, safe, fully stocked, and organized work area; report equipment needs promptly.
- Enforce safety procedures during instruction, transitions, and emergencies.
- Wear the required uniform to uphold a professional appearance and adherence to YMCA branding standards.
- Maintain current instructional certifications relevant to the position.
- Co‑teach and mentor Swim Instructor Level I staff, providing guidance on performance expectations and supporting Aquatics leadership.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new Swim Instructors.
- Supervise aquatic environments, including locker rooms, restrooms, and storage areas, maintaining vigilance and safety compliance.
- At least one year of experience in aquatics instruction, lifeguarding, or youth programming (preferred).
- Strong communication and customer service skills, enthusiastic about youth development and safety.
- Ability to enforce policies, remain calm in emergencies, and lead structured swim instruction.
- Attention to detail regarding safety procedures and risk management.
- Commitment to maintaining job‑specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Experience with shifts that may vary (flexibility required).
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training – within 30 days of hire.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification – within 30 days of hire.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Certification – within six months of hire.
