General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store, as well as overall general operations and supervision when functioning as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and overseeing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Practice and enforce safe behaviors at all times.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure environment; correct or report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Secure building entry/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pickups, and register area.
- Remove clutter and keep egress routes clear.
- Protect customer safety by preventing accidents and reporting incidents.
- Test fire alarm systems per schedule and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognize associates using company programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain professional appearance, adhere to dress code, and enforce it with associates.
- Keep all areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard. Remove daily trash.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, assigning, and following up.
- Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process with urgency.
- Oversee non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back‑stock per company policy.
- Manage department merchandising, loss prevention, and promotional signage.
- Participate in the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong presence on the sales floor.
- Ensure integrity, protect confidential and financial information, and maintain the public view monitor.
- Conduct “Code 50” package inspections and execute best practices to maximize productivity and minimize loss.

- Maintain pace and presence, manage the line to reduce wait times.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures for friendly and productive service.
- Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and other breaks.

- Expedite go‑backs, properly scan, tag, and ticket returned merchandise.
- Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice and ensure merchandise salability on the front end.
