General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store, as well as overall general operations and supervision when functioning as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and overseeing company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Practice and enforce safe behaviors at all times.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure environment; correct or report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Secure building entry/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, armored carrier pickups, and register area.
  • Remove clutter and keep egress routes clear.
  • Protect customer safety by preventing accidents and reporting incidents.
  • Test fire alarm systems per schedule and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognize associates using company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain professional appearance, adhere to dress code, and enforce it with associates.
  • Keep all areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard. Remove daily trash.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, assigning, and following up.
  • Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process with urgency.
  • Oversee non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
  • Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Secure and process back‑stock per company policy.
  • Manage department merchandising, loss prevention, and promotional signage.
Loss Prevention
  • Participate in the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong presence on the sales floor.
  • Ensure integrity, protect confidential and financial information, and maintain the public view monitor.
  • Conduct “Code 50” package inspections and execute best practices to maximize productivity and minimize loss.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Execute best practices to maximize productivity and ensure associates follow front‑end standards.
  • Maintain pace and presence, manage the line to reduce wait times.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures for friendly and productive service.
  • Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and other breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies for the front end are functional and stocked.
  • Expedite go‑backs, properly scan, tag, and ticket returned merchandise.
  • Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice and ensure merchandise salability on the front end.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintain and clean fitting rooms.
  • Audit and ensure compliance with tag policies.
  • Ensure go‑backs are properly scanned, tagged, and ticketed.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
  • Perform cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
  • Control front‑end operations for refunds, purchases, and cash handling.
