Job Details
• Acute care Birthing Center with 34 total L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds,
• Unit averages 150-180 births per month and serves patients 33 weeks and above, including high-risk cases such as preeclampsia, diabetes, psych/social issues, and positive elicit substance use,
• Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for couplets,
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin,
• EFM system used is Centricity Perinatal; PACU monitoring available post-C-section,
• EMR is Epic;
Epic training is included in orientation,
• 12-hour night shifts with a Friday and Saturday weekend requirement (every other weekend),
• Block scheduling is available when requested,
Job Requirements
• Active WA state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted,
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NRP; intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) preferred,
• Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered with substantial prior travel nursing experience,
• Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections,
• Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning newborns,
• Must demonstrate competency in routine postpartum mother and baby care, including ability to transition babies and attend low-risk deliveries,
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration,
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
Additional Information
• Travelers are expected to float within the Birthing Center/Mother Baby and postpartum areas; no floating to the NICU or outside the department,
• Standby response time requirement is 45 minutes,
• Orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2-3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts,
• Scrubs are provided by the facility along with a personal locker,
• Unit is supported 24/7 by an in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, a neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) in the nursery, OB anesthesia, one surgical tech, and a patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift,
• Free charge nurses are available on both shifts,
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff,
• The unit manager is actively engaged with travelers and expects openness to facility workflows, policies, procedures, and feedback,
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered,
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position,
