Job Details
• Acute care hospital Birthing Center with 34 total beds, including 2 triage beds, 14 postpartum beds, and 2 OR suites for C-sections,
• Averages 150-180 births per month; high-risk patient population including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, psych/social issues, and positive illicit substance use - 33 weeks gestation and above,
• Follows AWHONN staffing guidelines with ratios of 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for mother-baby couplets,
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin,
• EFM system used is Centricity Perinatal; PACU monitoring available after C-sections,
• EMR is Epic;
Epic-specific orientation is included,
• Staffed 24/7 with an in-house OB/GYN hospitalist, NNP in the nursery, OB anesthesia provider (with on-unit call room), and one surgical tech,
• Each shift includes a free charge nurse (no patient assignment) and a patient care assistant with clerical duties,
• A respiratory therapist is typically assigned to the family birth unit,
• 12-hour day shifts; every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday),
• Holidays rotated in with permanent staff,
• Standby/on-call requirement with a 45-minute response time when placed on standby,
• Block scheduling available upon request,
Job Requirements
• Active WA state or compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration - pending licenses are not accepted,
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NRP - all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted,
• Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred,
• Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered if they have multiple prior travel assignments,
• Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections,
• Must be comfortable assisting with catching the baby and transitioning newborns,
• Epic EMR experience strongly recommended given required Epic orientation,
• Two professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration,
Additional Information
• Labor travelers are also required to function in postpartum, including routine mother-baby competencies, transitioning babies, and attending low-risk deliveries - no floating outside of the birthing center/postpartum department; no floating to the NICU,
• Orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2-3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts,
• Scrubs are provided by the facility; a personal locker is also provided,
• The unit manager actively provides feedback to travelers and expects openness and adaptability to unit workflows, policies, and procedures,
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered,
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position,
