About The Position
Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency with a mission to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible community-based programs, activities, and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation.
WhoWe Are Looking For
We are looking for newly trained lifeguards to join our team! This role is ideal for individuals who are excited about their first job in aquatics.
Lifeguard I will have the opportunity to work at both indoor and outdoor facilities.
As a Lifeguard I you will be responsible for the safety of patrons enjoying the facility. You will ensure smooth operations across various aquatics programs. Specific duties will include:
- Supervises patrons during recreational swim periods.
- Enforces health and safety rules and regulations.
- Rescues bathers in distress and administers appropriate assistance.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning duties.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Administers life-saving care when necessary.
- Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid, and AED (must be obtained).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to demonstrate swimming skills and work in the water for extended periods.
- Ability to apply business English, spelling, grammar, arithmetic, and office procedures.
This position will be supervised by career staff at the facility and stationed at County-operated aquatic facilities. Hours will vary depending on the operating schedule and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Selected candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check and drug screening prior to hire.
- Experience:
Some work experience as a participant or instructor in one or more recreation activities is preferred. - Education:
Ability to read and write in English. - Equivalency:
None - Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications from the American Red Cross or other agency approved by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
- Aquatics positions require the Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
