About the RoleYMCA Silver Spring is looking for a motivated, driven, and enthusiastic Wellness Coordinator to help lead and elevate our Wellness Department. In this dynamic role, you’ll work closely with the Wellness Director to plan, develop, deliver, and continuously improve programs that inspire healthy lifestyles and keep our members coming back for more.
This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone who loves fitness, thrives in a team environment, and is excited to shape impactful wellness experiences.
What You’ll Be Doing- Partner with the Wellness Director to develop, manage, and grow engaging wellness programs that boost participation, retention, and revenue—while staying true to the Y’s mission.
- Help recruit, interview, hire, onboard, schedule, train, motivate, and support a talented team of Wellness staff.
- Analyze trends and member needs to help build a dynamic and balanced Group Fitness schedule.
- Coordinate and host certification courses and continuing education opportunities to support staff growth.
- Represent the YMCA at community events, open houses, demos, and outreach activities—sharing our mission and welcoming new members.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Health & Wellness–related field (preferred)
- At least 3 years of experience in personal training and group exercise instruction
- Strong knowledge of exercise science, physiology, program design, safety, injury prevention, and working with diverse populations
- Confidence using a wide range of fitness equipment
- NCCA-accredited certifications in:
- Personal Training
- Ability to bend, stand, sit, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Flexible availability (early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on‑call as needed)
- Occasional travel throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metro area
