Description: The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is offering a post-master's fellowship at the Silver Spring, Maryland facility.
What will I be doing? As the selected candidate, you will be part of a research team focused on screening small molecules for antibacterial activity and will engage with the antibiotics-section lead, intra- and extramural researchers to coordinate small molecule testing, data analysis, and delivery/discussion of results. You will also have opportunities for authorship of research efforts in antimicrobial drug discovery and for presentations at scientific conferences.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct established in vitro drug screening assays against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
- Execute other assays addressing Department of Drug Discovery goals for antimicrobial (including malaria, bacteria, and/or viruses) drug discovery and development.
- Learn the protocol and process for collaboration exchanges.
- Gain experience with data sets and results analysis.
- Generate research reports and manuscripts for publication, and present intra‑ and extramural findings.
Location: Silver Spring, Maryland
Anticipated start date: Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
Appointment length: Twelve-month research appointment, with possibility of renewal for additional periods depending on funding, project assignment, and participant availability.
Provisions:
- Stipend: $7,500.00 monthly (subject to determination by WRAIR).
- Health insurance supplement (participants may purchase coverage through ORISE).
- Relocation allowance.
- Training and travel allowance.

Qualifications: Earned master’s degree in biology (general) or microbiology completed within the last 60 months; U.S. citizenship required.
