Job Summary

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites applications for the Superintendent of Bus Maintenance position. The role provides daily customer service to the citizens of Maryland as part of one of the largest transit systems in the United States. The Superintendent will supervise the Bus Maintenance Division staff—mechanics, maintenance technicians, and other subordinate employees—and oversee equipment inspection, maintenance, policy implementation, work performance, and staff meetings with management and union employees.

Location:

Baltimore, Maryland (Bus Maintenance Shop).

Work schedule:

24‑hour shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the operation of the Bus Maintenance Shop 7 days a week, 24 hours a day with Assistant Superintendents and Supervisors.
  • Review and complete or close work orders in Maximo.
  • Ensure compliance with the provisions of the MTA union contract.
  • Provide communication between maintenance departments and all other operating departments.
  • Maintain operational standards throughout the department for State and Federal Government auditing purposes.
  • Compile and maintain records for weekly status reporting to the manager and the Director of Bus Maintenance.
  • Daily review of scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Assure compliance with MTA and Bus Maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain budgetary requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for supervisors.
Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of experience in the repair, maintenance, and inspection of heavy‑duty automotive vehicles and equipment, with two years of supervisory experience involving other mechanics or maintenance technicians.

  • Additional experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
  • Additional education at an accredited college may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to four years of non‑supervisory experience.
Licenses & Certifications

Employees must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland.

Additional Information

Employees should adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements. Participation in safety meetings and reporting of hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents to the Office of Safety and supervision is required. Failure to adhere to safety rules may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
