Medical Technician

About the Position: The position is located at the US Army Centralized Allergen Extract Laboratory (Kimbrough, Ft Meade) in Silver Spring, Maryland. Primary responsibilities involve processing and formulation of patient allergen extract immunotherapy vaccines and diagnostic skin testing products using strict aseptic technique and infection control procedures. The work is performed in a laboratory environment involving the use of laminar airflow hoods.

• Process and formulate allergen extract vaccine prescriptions as directed by the Allergist.
• Review patient prescription for accuracy of dosage, units of potency, manufacturer and treatment schedule.
• Utilize the automated Extract Lab Managment System (ELMS) to retrieve, input, process, formulate and disseminate patient allergen extract vaccine prescriptions and diagnostic skin testing.
• Elevate, resolve and/or report any formulation errors and prescribing discrepancies.
• Provide technical training to new employees and/or colleagues.
• Perform routine sterile testing procedures.

• Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
