Summary:

The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to designated residents in a safe and organized manner. Responsibilities include assisting with medications, documenting medication assistance, and resident care. The CMT must have strong communication skills to communicate effectively with residents, residents’ families, and all team members. The role requires observing and reporting changes in residents’ physical condition or behavior. The CMT also carries out all other duties of a Resident Assistant.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Victory Housing, Inc. Mission Statement takes precedence over all decisions and actions.
  • Adhere to all Victory Housing policies and procedures, COMAR 10.07.14 regulations, and federal, state, and local guidelines (including DOH, CDC, CMS, OSHA).
  • Implement universal precautions and infectious disease control protocols; wear assigned PPE as policy and as requested.
  • Complete all training including orientation, COMAR requirements, monthly in-services, HIPAA, and required personal care and skills modules. Participate in safety and disaster drills as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Registered Nurse/LPN on matters related to the Clinical Program and Medication Delivery System.
  • Read and document pertinent information in the Communication Log for resident updates and observations.
  • Administer medications and treatments using the EMAR platform, including preparing medications for med-pass with attention to: correct drug, correct resident, route, dosage, time, and charting.
  • Ensure medications are not expired and are delivered to the resident in appropriate locations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident medications and verify resident identity before administering medications.
  • Offer water or approved beverages with medications and observe swallowing; document completion of medication administration in EMR (or paper MAR if EMR is down).
  • Document resident concerns during med-pass and report refusals to the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator.
  • Answer resident questions regarding medications; return non-dispensed medications to the cart and lock the cart after medication pass.
  • Wash hands before and after medication passes and follow universal precautions; hand sanitizer may be used if hands are not soiled.
  • Prepare medications for residents to accompany them on short-term absences from the community; document legibly.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the medication cart and Wellness Center; restock as needed.
  • Adhere to narcotics count policy; count, verify, sign, and date narcotics counts at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Assist with medication delivery when the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator is not present and report discrepancies.
  • Assist with resident care and physical support as needed (e.g., after falls, during transfers, toileting, emergencies).
  • Initiate and complete incident reports per policy; promote dignity and support resident needs.
  • Foster teamwork and open communication with management, clinical and care teams; ensure quality of care and a secure environment for residents.
  • Communicate with the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator regarding all health care and wellness issues.
  • Serve meals in the dining room with hospitality and customer service; deliver meals on trays to residents in their suites if required.
  • Dining room responsibilities include seating, table setup, beverage service, meal service, ensuring safe food handling and appropriate temperatures, and offering diabetic desserts when appropriate.
  • Ensure a safe environment by following procedures for lifting and transferring, fire and disaster safety, reporting unsafe conditions, completing accident reports, storage of chemicals, infection control, and assisting housekeeping as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism and positive public relations; support the team to create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and scheduled training; respond to help/call bells promptly and assist with incoming calls professionally.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
