Associate Superintendent for Professional Development and Coaching Potomac Conference Corporation in Verona, VA
The Associate Superintendent for Professional Development and Coaching is a leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the district’s professional development programs for educators and staff across 16 schools. This individual will ensure that all instructional staff have access to high-quality coaching, training, and resources to enhance their teaching practices, foster continuous growth, and support student achievement.
As a member of the Office of Education's leadership team, the Associate Superintendent will work closely with school leaders, teachers, and other district stakeholders to promote a culture of learning, collaboration, and instructional excellence. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong background in coaching, instructional leadership, and a passion for fostering a growth mindset throughout the district.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
- Lead the development and execution of the office’s professional development (PD) strategy to align with office goals and educational best practices standards.
- Collaborate with school principals and other administrators to identify professional development needs and design customized training solutions.
Guide the creation and implementation of an ongoing professional development plan that spans a variety of instructional practices, including but not limited to content area expertise, technology integration, differentiated instruction, and social-emotional learning (SEL).
Coaching & Support
- Provide direct coaching to instructional leaders, including school principals to enhance their leadership skills in areas related to instructional improvement.
- Ensure that coaching and feedback cycles are data-driven and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning.
- Align PD initiatives with conference-wide curricular goals and NAD, Union, and state/federal mandates.
- Facilitate the adoption of research-based instructional strategies and tools across all schools.
- Support the development of specialized PD programs for specific groups of teachers (e.g., new hires, subject-specific content experts, or teachers supporting students with special needs).
Data Analysis & Evaluation
- Use student achievement data, teacher performance assessments, and feedback from staff to evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs.
- Regularly assess and refine PD strategies to ensure continuous improvement in instructional quality and student outcomes.
- Provide regular reports to the Vice President for Education, Board of Education, and school leaders on PD outcomes, areas for improvement, and overall program effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of collaboration among educators, encouraging the sharing of best practices, strategies, and resources across schools.
- Build strong relationships with all district stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, parents, and external partners.
- Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) to support ongoing peer learning, reflection, and growth.
Professional Development Programs
- Oversee the coordination and delivery of district-wide professional development days, workshops, webinars, and other learning opportunities for educators.
- Maintain a robust catalog of PD offerings, ensuring diversity in topics, formats (in-person/virtual), and delivery methods (e.g., workshops, seminars, self-paced modules).
- Provide or arrange for high-quality external professional development providers when necessary.
Education & Experience:
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership, including experience as a principal, vice principal, or instructional coach.
- Proven experience in leading professional development programs, coaching, or teacher training at the K-12 level.
- Strong background in data-driven instructional practices, coaching, and continuous improvement processes.
