Under supervision of the Director of the Office of Engagement, Behavioral Health, and Academics and in collaboration with the Community Schools Coordinator, the wellness trainer designs and implements a structured wellness program for diverse populations, advocating and promoting wellness, a healthy and active lifestyle, and healthy eating behaviors in assigned schools. The role includes the development and implementation of training programs, workshops, and presentations to train, support, and provide materials and resources for school staff to engage and instruct students in matters related to wellness, fitness, restorative justice, and positive emotional and behavioral health.

The trainer delivers training to assigned school staff through in-person as well as synchronous and asynchronous virtual formats. Additional responsibilities include assisting and supporting school staff with presentations, events and workshops for students and families, providing mindfulness and restorative justice training, developing and training staff members to serve as mindfulness/restorative justice coaches in their schools, and supporting students with effective mindfulness and restorative justice practices.

Supports the goals and objectives of the MCPS Community Schools model and collaborates with all other MCPS offices to ensure student mental and emotional health supports, training, and resources are aligned across the system. Physical demands include multiple wellness classes daily, lifting or moving material and equipment weighing up to thirty pounds. Evening and weekend work may be required.

• Design and implement wellness program for diverse student populations.
• Develop and implement training programs, workshops and presentations.

• Assist staff with presentations, events and workshops for students and families.
• Provide mindfulness and restorative justice training and materials.

• Collaborate with MCPS offices to align mental and emotional health supports.

• High School or GED diploma required;
  Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• College courses in mindfulness, restorative justice, kinesiology, yoga, exercise physiology, physical education, nutrition, or public health preferred.
• Experience developing and presenting informational/training programs to a diverse audience.
• Ability to assess and develop presentations and training materials suitable for school‑aged children.
• Experience coaching, mentoring and working with adults.
• Knowledge of mental health and emotional well‑being strategies and resources.
• Working knowledge of the Community Schools model.
• Strong interpersonal communication and human relations skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, web‑based applications and social media.
