Staff Accountant

This is career-building opportunity is located in the Silver Spring, Maryland region and offered on a short-term contract / temporary basis. Responsibilities held by the Staff Accountant include the preparation of monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation.

This position will require a fair amount of time dedicated to producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. You'll also have responsibility over various aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. You'll also be involved in compliance, communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes.

What you get to do every day

- Perform month end close, journal entries with minimum supervision

- Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules

- Maintain intricate journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

- Offer descriptions of a large number of financial data and communicate insights in a useful and understandable manner

- Take part the in implementation and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP

- Be a part of various department-wide initiatives

- Keep up fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed

- Participate in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation

- Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management Requirements - Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

- Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Proficient with spreadsheets and databases

- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

- Self-starter and strong ethical standards

- Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills

- ERP system experience

- Comprehensive knowledge of Quick Books

- Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

- Recent and relevant accounting experience

- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
