Title: Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) – Outpatient
Location: Silver City, NM
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 – 16:30), Monday–Friday
Job Responsibilities and Required/Preferred Skills & Requirements:
Provide physical therapy treatments in an outpatient setting with occasional inpatient coverage (approximately 80% outpatient / 20% inpatient).
Assist in patient evaluations, treatments, and implementation of care plans under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
Deliver therapeutic exercises, functional training, gait training, and modality-based treatments.
Perform assessments, document evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and short- and long-term goals.
Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, injury prevention, and proper body mechanics.
Manage a 1:1 patient ratio during day shifts and maintain effective time management.
Work with diverse patient populations including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Required Qualifications:
Active New Mexico Physical Therapist Assistant license.
BLS certification.
Experience in both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy settings.
Proficiency with Meditech charting system.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience in outpatient clinics and aquatic therapy.
Strong background in orthopedics, including treatment of spinal conditions, joint replacements, post-operative care, and musculoskeletal injuries.
Neurologic rehabilitation experience (e.g., Parkinson's disease, post-stroke, spinal cord injury).
Familiarity with therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, TENS, e-stim, cryotherapy, moist heat, and lumbar traction.
Experience with gait training, prosthetic training, extremity mobilization, myofascial release, and spinal mobilization.
Ability to work with common assistive devices (gait belts, walkers).
Knowledge of billing practices for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
