Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the child development centers, including full compliance with and knowledge of Title 22, Title 5, and the Child Care Food Program requirements. The Program Director serves as a thought partner to the Executive Director and senior management on a wide range of issues, including organizational sustainability, risk management, strategic planning, budgeting, and general administration.
EssentialPosition Responsibilities Planning
- Create an annual Early Care and Education (ECE) program plan, including detailed program specific goals based on the annual Program Self Evaluation results and the organization’s Strategic Plan.
- Work collaboratively with staff throughout the year to monitor, evaluate, and update the ECE program plan.
- Work with the Executive Director and Finance Director to develop and manage the annual center-based budget.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Develop, implement, and manage all programmatic aspects, including curriculum, employees, assessments/evaluations, professional development, facilities, and family engagement.
- Provide direct supervision to the Program Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Site Supervisors.
- Identify opportunities for organizational improvements in alignment with industry best practices.
- Work closely with external partners to leverage relationships for program benefits.
- Represent the agency’s programs and services at community events.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with Title 22, Title 5, and the Child Care Food Program requirements.
- Ensure compliance with government and foundation funding terms and conditions.
- Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of reports.
- Manage the annual program budget, ensuring expenses are within approved categories and for eligible activities.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to motivate staff.

- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Director’s Permit.
- Four years of experience teaching young children and four years of direct supervision.
- Extensive knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice, CLASS, ASQs, Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), and Environment Rating Scales.
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate.
- Child Abuse & Neglect Mandated Reporter Training.
- Health Clearance, including TB screen and required vaccinations.
- Valid California Driver’s License and access to transportation.
This position performs full supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including ensuring compliance with agency-wide philosophies, policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees; planning and directing work; performance management feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Physical RequirementsMust possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Travel RequirementsFrequent local travel required.
