Position: PART TIME SURPLUS SPECIALIST

Overview

Under general supervision of the Chief Procurement Officer, the Surplus Specialist receives, stores, and issues merchandise, materials, and equipment to support surplus and auction processes. Essential functions included in the job description may include tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and receive surplus property from City departments, maintaining surplus property, storage and inventory.
  • Manage and post surplus property on the City’s online website, Public Surplus.
  • Ensure surplus property is maintained and auctioned in accordance with state laws, City ordinances, and departmental policies.
  • Issue and distribute surplus to other City departments for re‑use, prepare surplus for sale, and select items for online or third‑party auction.
  • Manage online accounts, schedule and coordinate pick‑ups of auction items with the public from City sites, compose auction descriptions, take pictures, and post items on the online auction website.
  • Provide ongoing customer service to the general public regarding auction procedures.
  • Exercise initiative and judgment in handling the daily routine of this position; work is reviewed occasionally or on an as‑needed basis.
  • Maintain frequent contact with City employees and various vendors, and transport goods to various departments throughout the City.
Knowledge
  • Methods and procedures of storekeeper functions.
  • Ability to accurately complete basic mathematical computations.
Abilities
  • Read and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records and documentation.
  • Operate a personal computer.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds using a lifting belt and hand carts.
  • Safely operate a hand truck, motor vehicle, and forklift.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Provide customer service to the general public on a daily basis.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess an Arizona Class D driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass forklift training and become certified within 90 days of hire.
