Overview
Under general supervision of the Museum Curator provides services to museum visitors and library patrons.
Responsibilities- Provide customer service as needed. Assist the public with inquiries. Work with technology sufficiently enough to render advice to patrons/visitors and research museum database.
- Knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, and Excel.
- Assist curator with programs which may include development and implementation of programs, set up and take down; administrative tasks such as contacting speakers and education professionals for programs and writing program content for marketing purposes.
- Assist with a variety of displays and exhibits. May serve as back-up to curator in a variety of situations. In addition, will assist or provide outreach to "offsite" facilities as needed.
- Must keep up to date on newest trends regarding programming for a variety of audiences.
- May be asked to attend workshops or trainings specific to museum programming.
- Helps curator research and implement grants as necessary.
- Develop and implement programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors as needed.
- Supervise the museum independently, including Saturdays.
- Get along well with children, young adults, adults, and seniors.
- Meet the public with tact and courtesy.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Remain calm and efficient under pressure.
- Accurately and quickly attend to detailed work.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Physical ability sufficient to operate equipment including computers and telephones and able to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Visual ability sufficient to read and write reports and to use normal office equipment.
- Hearing ability sufficient to understand and hold conversations with others in person and by telephone.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to include existing volunteers.
- Strong project planning, time-management, and organizational skills.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6 months or more of library or museum experience OR 6 months or more experience in planning and implementing programs is required.
- A valid Arizona Driver's License or the ability to obtain one is required.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
- This position will work some evening and rotating weekend hours, up to 19.5 hours a week.
This is a position that will work with audiences of all ages. The motivation and willingness to serve the public is a must for this position.
