Position Summary

Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing a quality learning experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided throughout Cochise County via various media.

Essential Functions

Compensation: $900 per equated credit

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or laboratory environment
  • Develops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students’ educational and social needs
  • Collaborates with other faculty and staff in the assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department
  • Resolves issues relevant to the area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. General Expectations

    Education and Experience Requirements
    • Master’s degree, preferred in Music or related discipline but not required 18 graduate hours in Piano from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education
    • OR Bachelor’s degree in Music from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education and three (3) years of work or teaching experience in piano performance
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting the>
    • Knowledge of how to assist students of diverse cultures and backgrounds to improve and master their musical skills
    • Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles
    • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructionalli>
    • Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progress
    • Skill with current technologies and word and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications
    • Ability to instruct students in multiple skills and techniques around voice performance
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
    • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
    • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
    • Ability to analyze, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems either through the department chair or dean or by using independent judgment and decision-making
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
    Work Environment

    Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting under limited supervision. Evening or weekend work may be required. Participation at the end-of-semester concert, which is typically off-site and not during the regularly scheduled class time, is mandatory.
