Emergency Department Director
Department DescriptionWilson Health's Emergency Department is a 20 bed ED unit with 14 cardiac monitored beds. The Emergency Department at Wilson Health has received national recognition for exceptionally quick treat release times for patients.
Job SummaryThe Emergency Department Charge Registered Nurse is responsible for specific management responsibilities and for providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in the hospital. He/she is responsible for the evaluation and prioritizing of activities to meet the changing needs of the department. If the assigned Charge Nurse is unavailable, another RN who is qualified as charge will assume the role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Makes staffing assignment based on determination of total nursing needs of the patients.
- Patient Population includes:
Neonate, child, adolescent, young-middle-aged adult and the elderly. - Coordinates assignment of staff according to patient census and acuity. Staffing resources, staff skill level, needs of orientees, and continuity of care are to be considered.
- Assigns and reassigns staff in response to the changing needs of the department and reflects this on daily assignment sheet.
- Reviews staffing, current shift as well as that of next shift. Receives notification of sickness/absence from staff. Communicates this information with nursing supervisor/manager. Coordinates filling of staffing vacancy with nursing supervisor.
- Coordinates patient flow within department according to availability of nursing staff, room availability, and equipment needs.
- Communicates with team members, medical staff and nursing supervision concerning updates, and changes regarding patient status and other department issues.
- Notifies nursing supervisor immediately of urgent problems or occurrences.
- Communicates with appropriate departments or nursing supervisor when need arise for equipment or supplies.
- Communicates equipment failures to Bio Med/Plant Operations for repair.
- Facilitates student experiences on the unit.
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current RN license in State of Ohio.
- Current BLS.
- Required to obtain ACLS within 1 year of hire date. PALS and TNCC certification within two years of hire date.
- Past Charge experience preferred, previous ED experience preferred as well
