Overview

Need some extra income but can’t commit to fixed hours? Join our friendly team as a Casual Hospitality & Catering Assistant at Field Studies Council Preston Montford.

Why join us? Work flexibly – we’ll offer you shifts as they come up, and you can choose to accept or decline based on your availability. It’s the perfect way to fit work around your life.

We’re all about getting people outdoors, providing high-quality learning, and encouraging positive wellbeing. Since 1943, Field Studies Council has created inspiring outdoor learning opportunities for all ages – from school children to adult learners – helping everyone connect with and care for the environment.

What you’ll be doing

Housekeeping will be at the heart of your role, keeping our visitor spaces clean, tidy, and ready for guests. This includes:

  • Cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms, and communal areas
  • Preparing rooms for guests, including making beds, providing towels, and restocking tea/coffee facilities
  • Ensuring public areas such as corridors and classrooms are neat, tidy, and well-presented

You may also be asked to support our catering team. This could involve:

  • Setting up the dining room for meals
  • Assisting in the kitchen with food preparation and service
  • Keeping the dining, kitchen, and tea/coffee areas clean and stocked

Our centre is always busy, so we value team members who are happy to help wherever they’re needed.

Please refer to the vacancy pack for further details on the full responsibilities of the role.

Where you’ll be working

Preston Montford is set in the heart of Shropshire’s countryside, just outside Shrewsbury. It’s the kind of place where your day begins with fresh air, open views and the peaceful rhythm of a rural landscape. Our 12‑hectare estate is full of character, from semi‑ancient woodland and wildflower meadows to ponds, orchards and quiet corners perfect for taking a breather.

It’s a calm, scenic environment that feels far from the usual hospitality setting, with nature all around you.

We’re looking for someone with
  • A positive attitude and pride in your work
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A flexible, adaptable approach
  • A professional manner and great customer service skills
  • An interest in Field Studies Council’s aims and values
