Position: Oncology Support Medical Secretary

This post is for internal candidates to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, The Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital or The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System. We are looking to appoint Medical Secretaries within the Oncology Department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide efficient and comprehensive secretarial support in partnership with the Higher level Medical Secretary to the Consultant and supporting clinical teams.
  • Digital and audio typing of clinical letters, correspondence and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure results of tests and investigations for patients are reviewed by the Clinical teams in a timely manner and arrange any necessary ongoing follow‑ups.
  • Arrange, attend and minute meetings as required, taking and transcribing minutes and following up actions.
  • Use the in‑house patient data tracking system to ensure patient case notes are booked in and out appropriately.
  • Respond to Patient and Carers telephone calls, providing non‑clinical guidance and using own judgement in a professional and competent manner.
  • Produce and maintain records using Microsoft applications (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel and Access).
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgement whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times.
Eligibility & Competencies
  • Must be an internal employee of one of the four listed organisations.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage own workload independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with tact, diplomacy and persuasive skills where required.
