A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Continence Service as a Health Care Assistant (HCA). The HCA post is based at Lancaster Road Shrewsbury, but you will be expected to support a specialist nurse in clinics across the county in a variety of settings to include community hospitals and GP surgeries. Therefore, it is essential that you can meet the travel requirements of the job.

You are required to write in you own words (100 words maximum) your understanding of
the continence service. Please write this along with your supporting evidence within your
application form, if you do not write this, your application form may not be considered.
You will need to be confident in promoting health and wellbeing as the post requires the HCA to deliver targeted training in a classroom setting to the wider community utilising power point presentations and displaying visual aids.
- To be able to use the flowmeter and undertake urinalysis.
- To use electronic patient records accurately and inline with the trusts IG Policy.
- To undertake and manage routine clerical tasks in support of the Continence Service, including organising patient documentation for clinics and overseeing the filing of patient documentation. Archiving notes emailing patient letters to the appropriate health care professional.
- To work flexibly across the department as required / directed.
- Respect patient's individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity.
- Support patients and exercise positive relationships within professional boundaries as part of a purposeful caring regime.
- To Conduct continence reassessments as delegated by the Continence Advisor/ Team Leader.
- To deliver training sessions to the independent care sector, this means teaching up to 20 delegates about catheter care, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) prevention and different types of continence aids. This would all be demonstrated to the successful candidate before they are required to teach independently.

Person Specification Qualifications- NVQ level 3 in care.
- GCSE Grade A-C in English or equivalent.
- Recent demonstrable experience of working in a care role.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to use a computer to send emails and acquire the skills to use the continence databases and reporting systems.
- Knowledge and experience of caring for people within a variety of settings such as community or hospital.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to meet travel requirements of post.
