Join WSP as a senior consultant in our Infrastructure Planning Team, helping secure consent and approvals for major and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Based in Shrewsbury, England, this contract role offers a unique opportunity to work with leading clients across energy, renewables, nuclear, net‑zero, water, rail, transportation, and aviation sectors.

Job Description

WSP is an award‑winning consultancy and the largest employer of chartered town planners in the UK. We have recently been named RTPI’s Planning Consultancy of the Year for our excellence in uniting diverse disciplines to achieve outstanding results, especially in community engagement. Our Infrastructure Planning Team works through all stages of the consenting process—from early feasibility and application preparation to construction and beyond—serving clients such as National Grid, National Gas, Eni UK, SSE, Scottish Power Renewables, Severn Trent Water, Southern Water, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water and many others.

As a Senior Consultant, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, providing technical input, preparing Town & Country Planning Act applications, and liaising with statutory bodies and stakeholders. You will help secure consent and approvals under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Planning Act 2008, and Transport and Works Act Order (and, where applicable, the Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, or the Electricity Act).

Responsibilities
  • Prepare Town & Country Planning Act applications for infrastructure projects across the UK.
  • Support providing consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs, etc.).
  • Assist in providing technical advice to project managers to support client requirements.
  • Engage as liaison with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients to help deliver projects.
  • Build positive relationships within the team and engage with stakeholders across a variety of disciplines.
  • Proactively develop own knowledge and skills to build the team's internal knowledge base.
Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
  • Member of (or eligible for) the RTPI.
