JOB TITLE:

Accountant (Part-Time or Full-Time)

LOCATION:

Shrewsbury

HOURS:

Part-time or full-time (Mon–Fri)
SALARY: £35,000 - £45,000 (pro-rata if part-time) + benefits

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting an Accountant to join an established, independent insurance brokerage near Telford. This is a hands-on Accountant role where you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function in a friendly SME environment.

If you’re an Accountant who enjoys variety - from bookkeeping and reconciliations through to management accounts and reporting - this could be a great fit. The business needs an Accountant who is organised, process-led and comfortable working autonomously.

Key Responsibilities (Accountant)

Management Accounts & Reporting

* Produce monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet and cashflow)

* Provide regular finance reports and insights to the Directors (trends, risks, actions)

* Support budgeting and cashflow forecasting

Day-to-Day Accounts

* Manage purchase and sales ledger: invoices, allocations, supplier/customer queries

* Complete bank reconciliations and reconcile key control accounts

* Process staff expenses and credit card reconciliations

* Monitor cashflow and highlight issues early

VAT / Compliance / Year-End

* Prepare and submit VAT returns with supporting schedules

* Liaise with external accountants for year-end accounts and corporation tax

* Maintain tidy, audit-ready records and improve controls and processes

* Support a compliant, regulated environment (insurance brokerage)

Payroll Support (as required)

* Liaise with external payroll provider (starters/leavers/changes)

* Maintain records relating to pensions, benefits and payroll-related postings

What We’re Looking For

* AAT qualified or QBE (ACCA/CIMA part-qualified considered)

* Proven experience as an Accountant or in a stand-alone finance / SME accounts role

* Strong bookkeeping + management accounts experience

* Confident with Xero, Sage or Quick Books and strong Excel skills

* High attention to detail, accurate and well organised

* Comfortable managing your own workload and prioritising deadlines

Desirable (but not essential)

* Experience in insurance, financial services or a regulated environment

* Experience as the “number one” finance person in a small business

What’s On Offer

* Part-time Accountant hours (c. 2–3 days) OR full-time Accountant hours available
