SummaryThe Town of Shrewsbury, a high-performing, full-service local government known for innovation and creativity, is seeking a collaborative and forward thinking professional to lead its Public Buildings Division within the Department of Public Works as Public Buildings Division Manager. From schools and libraries to municipal and public safety buildings, your leadership will have a direct and visible impact on the daily experience of students, patrons, employees, and more than 38,000 residents who depend on safe, well maintained, and forward looking public spaces.
Reporting directly to the Director of Public Works, the Public Buildings Division Manager provides oversight, mentorship, and strategic direction to a team of four Assistant Division Managers and 21 skilled maintenance and custodial staff. This role works closely with Town Department Heads and the School Department, fostering strong partnerships to ensure facilities are maintained to high standards while aligning with broader operational, capital, and sustainability goals.

WhatYou’ll Do
- Independently manage all aspects of building operations, maintenance, and repairs for 18 public buildings totaling over 1.1 million square feet, including 9 public schools, 4 public safety buildings, 4 municipal buildings, and the Public Library.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, and management of over 25 employees, including supervisors, maintenance staff, and custodians. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Develop and implement plans for building additions and improvements, aligning with the town’s goals and priorities.
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Public Works, Town Manager, Department Heads, and oversight boards/committees to keep everyone informed and aligned.
- Oversee ongoing projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
- Assist in setting and achieving division objectives that support the broader goals of the Department and the Town.
- Associates Degree in Business Administration, operations and project management, or a closely related field and at least 5 years of experience in maintenance and operations of buildings/facilities; or any suitable combination of education, training, and experience.
- The ability to obtain Certification as an Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act Designated Person within six (6) months of hire.
- The ability to obtain a Construction Supervisors License within Two (2) years of hire and Building Operator Certification Level One (1) within one (1) year of hire.
- Ability to obtain Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official Certification & Building Operator Certification Level two (2) within two (2) years of hire.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure smooth operations.
- Expertise in conveying information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders.
- Strong ability to oversee and coordinate projects from inception to completion.
- Assist in developing goals and priorities that align with the Town’s objectives.
