Police Officer
Overview
Duties are outlined in Federal Aviation regulations, in the Airport Operations Manual and the Airport Master Security Plan. Wears prescribed uniform, carries prescribed weapon and is authorized to make arrest.
Summary:
Supervises patrol officers, coordinates with security police staff, conducts roll calls, prepares and assigns daily work details and secures off going shift. Responds to airport incidents and determines resolving actions. Maintains order and, working with and/or through the Shreveport Police Department, assures compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Assists and protects the public and airport employees. Drives security vehicle. Operates central radio.
Patrols assigned areas; responds to emergencies; conducts security checks; inspects runways, taxiways, etc. Maintains log: completes required records. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Five (5) years experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer/military police officer or three (3) years experience in airport law enforcement.
- Currently POST certified by an accredited Louisiana Law Enforcement Training Academy or successfully complete a POST certified course with one (1) year of hire.
- Possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of hire.
- Demonstrate supervisory qualities and ability to perform assigned tasks. Ability to interpret, apply and implement approved polices and procedures, and to maintain harmony among subordinates.
- Must have good moral character and history that can withstand an extensive background check; physical strength and agility; excellent eye-hand-foot coordination.
These physical requirements are not exhaustive. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Corrective lenses may be used to meet these requirements.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Shift work - days, swing, graveyard rotating shifts, work on holidays, varying days off. Work is mainly outdoors, hazardous and potential risk involved.
