UNIT OVERVIEWMedical/Surgical Orthopedics
The unit is a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment supporting orthopedics, neurosurgery, colorectal, gynecological, urology, plastics, bariatrics, general surgery, trauma, medical‑cellulitis, SBO, AMS, GI, hospice, and diabetes. Patient ratios are 1:5 and the unit has 40 beds. The Magnet‑designated unit emphasizes teamwork, self‑scheduling, shared governance, and collaboration across all disciplines.
Shift – Full Time Nights: 7 pm‑7 am.
Experience – 2.5 years Med/Surg/Tele experience;
Charge RN experience preferred.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the Boswell Nursing Practice Model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health‑care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays.
The RN delegates interventions to health‑care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient’s condition, and the competencies of the employee.
RN job is for hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24×7 staffing, including those with on‑call staffing on the off shifts. Examples of procedural areas: GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, and IV Services.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS• Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards, laws, regulations, and unit protocols.
• Understanding of medical terminology, preventive health, medication, and adverse reactions.
• Knowledge of ethics, privacy rights, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing and interact with diverse constituencies.
• General computer skills:
Microsoft Office, scheduling and payroll systems, EMR, and email.
