RN Wound Care – WOCN Education – Kings Hwy
Join Ochsner LSU Health as an RN Wound Care – WOCN Education professional. The role focuses on assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and reassessing wound care for patients with ostomy needs.

Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care of skin and wound conditions, including assessment and management of patients with altered skin integrity, pressure ulcers, vascular ulcers, incontinence, surgical procedures, and trauma.
- Apply scientific principles, nursing theories, and evidence‑based practice to deliver preventive and therapeutic wound/ostomy care.
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams to develop comprehensive care plans addressing nutritional, psychosocial, and wound needs.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on wound and ostomy prevention and care.
- Delegate wound/ostomy care interventions to qualified personnel while adhering to scope of practice and state policies.
- Use evidence‑based knowledge and research findings to guide practice and develop strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Lead communication and collaboration among interprofessional teams to deliver patient‑centered care.
- Evaluate and recommend revisions to policies, procedures, and protocols related to acute and chronic wound care.
- Adapt communication style to individual patient needs and maintain patient privacy.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- 1 year of nursing experience; 2 years of wound care experience preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider status (within 30 days of hire).
- WACN, WCC, or CWS certification, or other approved wound‑care related certification (e.g., WOCNCB) within the last 3 years is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Wound Treatment Associate (WTA) Course Completion.
- WOCN Society accredited educational program or other wound‑care certification.
- Leadership skills.
- Knowledge of wound care concepts and use of special modalities.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, planning, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in computers, software, web applications, and electronic health records.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly.
- Excellent judgment, analytical, organizational, decision‑making, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to formulate practical solutions and manage priorities involving multiple constituencies.
- Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Sound knowledge of nursing practice.
- Self‑directed, good judgment in handling difficult situations.
- Medium work – may require lifting 20–50 lb occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, or up to 10 lb constantly.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
- Potential exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
