Clinical/Medical Lab Scientist – Transfusion Services – Kings Hwy
Ochsner LSU Health is hiring a Clinical/Medical Lab Scientist for the Transfusion Services division located on Kings Highway. The role involves receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests and quality control, calibrating equipment, and phlebotomy as required, while maintaining patient confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Receive, process, and test patient specimens according to established protocols.
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory analyses with accuracy and within time‑frames.
- Conduct quality control, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting, and document corrective actions.
- Calibrate and maintain analytical equipment to meet performance standards.
- Adhere to safety, OIG, and proficiency testing guidelines, and support accreditation requirements.
- Participate in data collection for performance improvement and contribute to cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Interact with patients and colleagues using professional communication skills.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field. Transcript required.
- Current state license in practice (if applicable).
- Certification in Medical Laboratory Science or Technologist (ASCP, AMT, or AAB). For academic centers, ASCP or AAB individual discipline certification may be required.
- Computer proficiency with Windows applications and data handling.
- Strong and written communication skills, analytical problem‑solving, judgment, and interpersonal abilities.
- No prior work experience required.
- Frequent lifting of 10–50 pounds and intermittent lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand or sit for extended periods.
- Work flexibility (24/7, weekends, holidays, on‑call). Travel between facilities may be required.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials with appropriate precautions.
