Patient Care Assistant - Perioperative Procedures - St. Mary - DAYS
This role works collaboratively to maintain patient safety and provide basic patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The assistant may provide constant observation, notify nursing personnel of changes, and intervene as needed to maintain patient safety, communicating effectively with coworkers, patients, families, and visitors. All delegated functions are performed in compliance with policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Supports the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of skills verification.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
- Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Communicates patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multidisciplinary teams.
- Completes documentation of patient-related tasks.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, introducing services, seeking permissions, and tailoring communication style.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 30 days from hire.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) to be obtained within 30 days from hire.
- Current state of practice Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hospital and telemetry experience.
- Current state of practice Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI).
- Current state of practice Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

- Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: 3 months of personal care experience in a home or clinical setting, including bathing, oral care, and personal hygiene.
- Preferred:
Hospital and telemetry experience.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
The physical demands are representative of those needed for success in this role, including medium work requiring the lifting of 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds frequently. The job may expose the incumbent to blood, body fluid, and tissue, and to hazardous medications or waste.
