The CTE Culinary Arts Teacher provides instruction in culinary fundamentals, food preparation, safety, sanitation, nutrition, and hospitality management aligned with the Arizona Department of Education CTE standards. This position prepares students for post-secondary education and careers in the culinary and hospitality industries through hands‑on learning, industry partnerships, and work‑based learning opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement engaging lessons aligned with CTE Culinary Arts program standards and district curriculum.
- Instruct students in food safety and sanitation practices following Serv Safe and industry guidelines.
- Teach culinary skills, including food preparation, baking, menu planning, cost control, and presentation.
- Manage and maintain a safe, organized, and fully functional commercial kitchen and classroom laboratory.
- Oversee and guide student‑run catering events, competitions, and community‑based projects. Integrate employability skills, career readiness, and leadership development into instruction.
- Collaborate with advisory council members, local businesses, and post‑secondary partners to strengthen program relevance and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, inventories, and required CTE reporting documentation.
- Supervise and evaluate student performance, including practical skill assessments and industry certifications.
- Support Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) such as FCCLA, including student participation in leadership and competitive events.
- Attend required CTE meetings, professional development, and industry‑related trainings.
- Comply with all district policies, ADE requirements, and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of current culinary industry standards, tools, and trends.
- Strong instructional, classroom management, and organizational skills. Ability to operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment safely.
- Skill in differentiating instruction for diverse learners.
- Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with industry and postsecondary institutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution, or other degree or certificate from an accredited Hospitality and Culinary institution, and a minimum of 5000 hours of culinary or hospitality experience.
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate CTE Culinary Arts endorsement (or ability to obtain).
- Current Serv Safe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Relevant culinary, hospitality, or restaurant industry experience.
- Previous experience teaching CTE or Culinary Arts at the secondary or postsecondary level.
- Experience managing student organizations such as FCCLA.
- Proven record of industry engagement or catering program development.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs, and exposure to kitchen‑related heat and equipment.
- May require evening or weekend hours for catering, competitions, or school events.
