DefinitionTo perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, installation, inspection and construction of wastewater collection facilities, including sewage lift (pump) stations, grinder pumps, pressure and gravity‑flow pipelines, manholes, emergency power generators, buildings, grounds and light vehicle maintenance; to assure the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic; to utilize the City’s asset management system; and to operate a variety of heavy and light vehicles, specialized equipment, hand and power tools.
DistinguishingCharacteristics
This is the full journey level class within the Wastewater Utility Maintenance Worker series. Wastewater Utility Maintenance Worker II’s perform skilled and specialized wastewater inspection, maintenance, operations, repairs and construction duties; operate eductor combination high‑velocity water/vacuum sewer cleaning equipment, closed‑circuit TV equipment, portable generators, roding machines, pickup and dump trucks and other specialized equipment as required; may serve as lead worker to Maintenance Worker I’s, part‑time, and seasonal employees as assigned.
Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work team. The Wastewater Utility Maintenance Worker II is distinguished from the Wastewater Utility Maintenance Worker I by the possession of a commercial endorsement on the driver’s license and by more wastewater maintenance and repair work experience.

Receives supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff.
Essential Functions- Inspect, maintain and repair sewage lift stations and grinder pumps on a scheduled basis; read and record hours meters and gauges; service and repair pumps, motors, valves and other mechanical and electrical equipment, including pulling and de‑ragging pumps; replacing seals and valves; inspecting bearings and/or impellers; perform cathodic protection electrode maintenance; wet well cleaning; inspection of dry wells for pump operations;
service lift station control systems (bubbler lines, floats, transducers, etc.); respond to power outages and ensure emergency power generator operations. - Operate Closed Circuit Television Vehicle (CCTV), eductor truck and other equipment for the internal cleaning, inspection or repair of underground sewer pipes, stub‑outs, manholes, lateral connections and associated appurtenances using closed‑circuit television equipment to locate leaks, breaks, infiltration and the buildup of dirt, debris, roots and other materials on a scheduled preventive maintenance or emergency basis; and maintain video library and records of inspections, maintenance and repair activities.
- Operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to investigate, monitor and respond to trouble alarms at individual lift stations; utilize Geographic Information (GIS) systems and flow monitoring records or information to troubleshoot and resolve wastewater collection service issues or problems.
- Perform confined space entries to inspect, maintain and repair underground dry and wet wells, manholes, chambers, and vaults; utilize specialized fall protection and entry safety equipment including using, maintaining, and calibrating air monitoring equipment; and maintaining required entry records.
- Serve on a 24‑hour after‑hours call‑out duty roster to respond to unexpected problems or emergencies such as mitigating line blockages or breaks, power outages, pump failure overflow spills, supplemental snow and ice control and related activities.
