Job Description

Are you driven to shape the future of manufacturing through innovation and technology? Emerson is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Sherman, Texas team, where you’ll lead the integration of automation and digitization projects that directly impact customer satisfaction, delivery performance, and operational excellence. You will do more than just implement equipment—you’ll design and deploy smart factory solutions, optimize processes, and ensure the ongoing performance of cutting‑edge automation systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy factory automation and digitization projects at the Sherman Campus while ensuring ongoing equipment performance and maintenance.
  • Analyze and optimize existing systems, workflows, and processes to identify high‑value opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.
  • Design, write, test, and deploy robust automation programs (MES, QMS, BPM, etc.) while monitoring performance and troubleshooting issues. Build business cases, secure approvals, and communicate ROI‑driven proposals to senior leadership while partnering with global and site teams to align automation strategies and vision.
  • Identify and deliver cost savings, efficiency gains, and improvements in productivity, quality, reliability, and safety, aligning initiatives with customer‑focused strategies and plant objectives.
  • Educate and train plant staff on Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Drive a strong safety culture, and bring forward innovative ideas from technical training, vendors, and industry trends.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent Automation and Controls certification/related experience.
  • Demonstrated change management skills.
  • Structured problem‑solving, mechanical reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to be hands‑on in machine diagnosis & maintenance, engineering evaluation, and testing.
  • Action‑oriented, self‑motivated learner, able to communicate effectively and collaborate with others.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States – Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in key functional roles such as Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in PLC/HMI programming and various PLC hardware.
  • Proficiency in factory automation and controls hardware including autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), 6‑axis robots, autonomous storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), automated packaging, conveyors, PLCs, HMIs, electro‑pneumatics devices, sensors, remote IO, servos, VFDs, machine vision, RFID, etc.
  • Experience with AI based camera inspections systems, Universal Robots, VLMs, and AMRs.
