About the PositionThe Transit Maintenance Mechanic plays a key role in keeping our community on the move by ensuring the safety and reliability of a professional fleet of Transit vehicles through Goose Creek Transit. Essential Job Functions Facility, Equipment & Repair Maintenance- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on transit fleet vehicles.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform on‑site repairs when necessary.
- Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and schematics.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance facility, bus stops, and tools.
- Additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the organization’s goals and operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with Bus Operators, Transportation Specialists, and Managers to prioritize and complete work orders.
- Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly, and occasionally up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination to operate tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
- Must be able to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in confined spaces, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
- Frequent walking, climbing, and reaching to access vehicle components.
- Visual and auditory ability required to detect mechanical issues and ensure safety standards.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to fumes, noise, and vibration commonly found in a shop setting.
