Job Summary
  • The Director of Nursing (DON) for the Long-Term Care facility is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all nursing and direct care operations within the LTC unit. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and compliant care to residents while fostering a supportive and efficient work environment for nursing staff. The DON collaborates closely with hospital leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to maintain regulatory compliance, promote resident satisfaction, and support staff development in a rural healthcare setting.
  • Under the direction of the CNO and in collaboration with the Executive Director, the DON works to articulate a shared vision, standardize and deliver superior clinical care and outcomes, and establish priorities for the Long Term Care Facility.
  • The Director of Nursing is a member of the Executive Director's administrative team and serves as the Executive Director’s designee as assigned. The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the programs, processes and services in the Long term Care Facility.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the nursing department within the LTC facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS and Wyoming Department of Health standards.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and support personnel.
  • Coordinate resident care planning and ensure individualized care plans are developed and followed.
  • Monitor and manage staffing levels, schedules, and productivity to ensure adequate coverage and quality care.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in facility audits and inspections.
  • Serve as a liaison between residents, families, staff, and external healthcare providers.
  • Manage departmental budgets, supplies, and resources efficiently.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide clinical support as needed.
  • Assist in preparing and managing the facility budget ensuring cost-effective operations including oversight of inventory management of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure all household staff receiving ongoing education, training, and certifications required for regulatory compliance,
  • Develop and facilitate, in collaboration with other departmental leadership, a continuous training and education plan.
  • Implement infection control policies and safety procedures to minimize health risks to residents and staff.
  • Manage any incidents or adverse events within the nursing department, conducting investigations and developing corrective action plans.
  • Monitor resident safety and care concerns, implementing preventive measures when needed.
