Job Summary

Provides direct, procedural care for patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Communicates continuously with physicians and lab staff about patient condition. Assists during invasive and noninvasive procedures through monitoring and/or scrubbing. Operates equipment safely and correctly. Performs imaging procedures with patient safety protocols. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities People
  • Assist other departments with procedural processes requiring subject‑matter expertise.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit through email, SBAR, and daily interaction.
Service
  • Approaches patient and family in a kind, gentle manner; treats them with respect and dignity; identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during low-, moderate- and high‑risk procedures.
  • Ensures patients understand pre‑, intra‑ and post‑operative processes and education performed pre‑operatively for recovery.
Safety
  • Responds to all call‑back notifications within 5 minutes and assumes patient care within 30 minutes of notification.
  • Checks LMP prior to procedure for all women of childbearing years.
  • Ensures proper function/operation of radiological equipment and radiation safety of the team and patients; notifies personnel if safety processes are contaminated or unsafe.
  • Identifies situations that put patients at increased risk for cardiac arrest; modifies processes to keep patients hemodynamic status stable.
  • Performs patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces likelihood of medical errors.
  • Ensures use of universal protocol on all procedures and maintains aseptic technique where necessary.
  • Practice safe administration of medications (8 rights) based on age, weight, labs and medical condition; individualizes plan of administration.
  • Subject‑matter expert regarding hematoma management post‑procedure for hospital staff.
  • Adherent to infection control policies, including PPE use.
Quality
  • Respects patient confidentiality and right to privacy.
  • Ensures documentation is correct for procedural processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement (CQI).
  • Reports significant events such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints.
  • Proactive rounding with team members on unit.
  • Ensures proper environmental conditions for surgical/radiological equipment and supplies safety.
Finance
  • Documents procedural charges accurately.
  • Maintains records and handles special equipment, monitors and instruments; notifies manager if preventative maintenance needed.
  • Uses timekeeping system; minimizes overtime; allocates time in other departments.
