The following role supports service excellence and a culture of kindness: the Good Faith Estimate (GFE) Processor will review and analyze medical records to determine appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT assignments, create good faith estimates based on patient appointment details using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and payer codes, and mail GFE letters in compliance with the No Surprises Act.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Review and create GFE letters for patients’ scheduled appointments within the hospital and clinics in accordance with the No Surprises Act.
  • Create GFE letters per patient request.
  • Mail GFE letters within the required timeframe specified by the No Surprises Act.
  • Comply with all legal requirements regarding coding procedures and practices.
  • Maintain Sheridan Memorial Hospital compliance with the No Surprises Act.
  • Serve as the primary contact and resource for intra-department communication regarding the GFE, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and cost.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the GFE process and collaborate with the Patient Accounts manager and supervisor to implement improvements.
Minimum Requirements Education / Experience / Licenses and Certifications
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Minimum one year in a healthcare environment, preferred.
  • Knowledge of third-party payers and related regulations, preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating a computer and ability to learn and use computer applications.

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from providers, clinical staff, payers, and patients.
    • Ability to write clearly and informatively with excellent spelling.
    • Ability to use analytical thinking, independent judgment, and clinical knowledge to adjust service area schedules and accommodate special requests from internal and external customers.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or scheduled form.
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficient with the EMR system.

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
    • Ability to use analytical thinking, independent judgment, and clinical knowledge to adjust service area schedules and accommodate special requests from internal and external customers.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or scheduled form.
