Sheridan, Wyoming – Job Onsite
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial management functions of the distillery, including financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory management, compliance, and internal controls.
This role will partner closely with executive leadership to ensure strong financial discipline while supporting strategic growth initiatives across production, distribution, and hospitality operations.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and operational—capable of managing day-to-day accounting while also providing insights that drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements
- Develop financial reporting packages for ownership and leadership
- Manage annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity planning
- Implement and maintain cost accounting systems specific to distillery production
- Track raw materials, work-in-process, aging barrels, and finished goods inventory
- Analyze product costing, margins, and operational efficiency
- Work closely with production leadership on yield analysis and cost optimization
- Ensure compliance with federal and state alcohol regulations including reporting to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau
- Manage excise tax reporting and filings
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures
- Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and audits
- Support executive leadership with financial modeling and scenario planning
- Provide analysis for capital investments, equipment purchases, and expansion initiatives
- Help develop pricing strategies and profitability analysis across product lines
- Contribute to long-term financial strategy
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Experience in manufacturing, beverage, food production, or craft beverage industry strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
