Department of Sports Studies – Tenure-Track Faculty Position – Sport, Health, and Well‑Being

The Department of Sports Studies at Bishop’s University invites applications for a full‑time tenure‑track faculty position in Sports Studies in sport, health, and well‑being, beginning July 1, 2026.

Applicants must possess a PhD at the time of appointment and have, or be in the process of developing, a research program related to health and well‑being in or through sport, broadly defined. Examples of such research include:

  • Safe Sport and athlete protection (e.g., maltreatment prevention and safeguarding frameworks)
  • Mental health, psychosocial well‑being, and care in sport
  • Sport as a context for individual, community, or population health
  • Related areas aligned with health and well‑being in or through sport

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the potential to contribute to program development. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in areas such as Safe Sport; athlete welfare, protection, and human rights in sport; mental health and psychosocial well‑being in sport; and other courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise and the evolving needs of the program.

Bishop’s University is a public, secular institution that offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Instruction is primarily in English, though a willingness to learn French over time is encouraged.

The department also hosts an undergraduate honours program, a growing graduate student cohort, a robust research culture housed in the Sports Studies Collaboratory, and strong partnerships with the Department of Athletics and Recreation for experiential learning and research collaborations.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Sports Studies, with emphasis on health and well‑being topics.
  • Developing and maintaining a graduate student supervision program.
  • Conducting independent, scholarly research and publishing in peer‑reviewed venues.
  • Participating in departmental and university service activities, including program development and curriculum design.
  • Engaging in community outreach and applied research partnerships related to sport, health, and well‑being.
Qualifications
  • PhD earned or in progress at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and course development.
  • Active research agenda with evidence of productivity or strong potential.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and a diverse learning environment.
  • Interest and experience in Safe Sport, athlete welfare, mental health in sport, or related health and well‑being domains.
