The Nancy and John Gallop Artist in Residence – Bishop’s University Drama

(le français suit)

Bishop’s University is happy to announce the continuation of the Nancy and John Gallop Artist in Residence program at Bishop’s University.

We are calling for applications from an individual, or a small team of artists, for the second year of this program.

The University sits on the ancestral and unceded land of the Abenaki, who are members of the Wabenaki confederacy, at a meeting of rivers. It is the only English-language University outside of Montreal.

The Drama Department continues to enjoy the support of the community. In alignment with Bishop’s University’s Strategic Plan for the Arts, we also are committed to bringing theatre arts to non-traditional spaces and bringing theatre into conversation with other programs and disciplines. We are ready to challenge ourselves, our students, and our community. We welcome applications from emerging and established theatre artists.

We welcome applicants with a lived experience and/or professional knowledge and experience speaking to social justice, marginalized identities, and Reconciliation. More information on Bishop’s University’s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion can be found here:

The successful applicant will lead the direction and creation of one of the following performances:

  • Turner Studio Theatre —
performance dates: TBD but mid-November 2027
  • Centennial Theatre —
    performance dates:
    March 11-14, 2027

The artist in residence will receive $25,000 in support of creative and scholarly activities that will enrich the University and local communities. This amount includes compensation for the instruction of this course, DRA
332. It will be compensated as per Part-time faculty Collective agreement, at $9560.92 per course. Additionally, the artist in residence would share their work with the public in the form of any of the following: public presentations, installations, or discussions.

Applicants should supply a cover letter, cv, and a portfolio with at least four samples (video clips, links, or criticisms) of theatre work, and a proposal for creative projects or work for their residency. In your application, please indicate whether you are applying for the production in Turner Studio Theatre or Centennial Theatre.

Applications should be sent as one file to the administrative assistant for the Dean of Humanities, Ms. Sarah Dufault,  by February 7, 2026.

More information on the program may be found here:
