Description
The Clerk II position has special system-wide expertise that takes a significant portion of their responsibility and working day. The Reference Clerk provides specialized services to patrons by providing advanced problem-solving assistance in person, by telephone, and online. Additionally, the Reference Clerk conducts environmental scans of the branch's community through the process of reference interviews, creating unique insight into the needs of the community's adult population.
The Reference Clerk facilitates a variety of educational and cultural programs for adults to encourage library usage and to foster community relations. The Reference Clerk reports to the Branch Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Working with the public in a friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable manner.
- Maintaining collaborative relationships with key community stakeholders, as well as internal partners, including PR/Marketing and Outreach/Programming
- Assisting patrons by performing reference interviews to determine exact needs and providing reference services to meet those needs.
- Assisting patrons in the use of print and online reference resources.
- Assisting patrons with advanced readers' advisory needs.
- Assisting patrons with simple to advanced computer questions.
- Assisting patrons with genealogical searches.
- Assisting with responses to social media, particularly reference questions.
- Teaching computer skills in a one-on-one or group setting.
- Recommending the addition or removal of related resources.
- Facilitating the selection, scheduling, and promotion of events of adults at the branch.
- Recording and reporting statistics about patron usage to Library Administration.
- Applying data analysis techniques to guide event selection for adults at the branch.
- Operating and maintaining library equipment.
- Explaining library services and resources to the public and library staff, including occasional offsite events.
- Assisting in the maintenance of the library collection.
- Maintaining knowledge of current library trends, events, and technologies.
- Working job duties as scheduled and any other jobs assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- At least one year of library experience.
- Experience working with computers, databases, and search tools.
- Ability to obtain the appropriate level of certification
* through the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives. - Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.

- Proficiency in using Internet search tools and evaluating Internet resources.
- Knowledge of and experience with computers, smartphones, tablets, library databases, word processing, desktop publishing, and computer, phone, and tablet operating systems.
- Knowledge of reference resources and practices, including electronic resources.
- Knowledge of books, authors, and reader interests.
- Knowledge of genealogical resources.
- Skill in applying library research methods and practices.
- Standing, sitting, stooping, and walking
- Handling books and other Library materials
- Using computer input devices
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate well with staff and customers.
- Sufficient vision to review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports, and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form.
- Mobility to help patrons and reach materials
- Pushing and pulling book trucks up to 50 lbs.
