American Consultants is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Travel Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator to join our dynamic healthcare team in Shelton, WA. This position is integral to supporting surgical teams in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
Duties
- Act as a Circulator during surgical procedures, coordinating patient care and ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Prepare the operating room by verifying equipment functionality, assembling necessary supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Assist surgical teams by managing patient positioning, documentation, and intraoperative monitoring.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously and respond promptly to any changes or emergencies.
- Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, documenting all perioperative activities thoroughly.
- Support preoperative assessments and postoperative care planning, including discharge instructions and patient education.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, scrub nurses, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate smooth surgical workflows.
- Administer medications and injections as authorized within scope of practice, including local anesthesia or sedation when applicable.
- Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to sterile field protocols throughout procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical safety and patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with current state licensure.
- Proven experience as an OR Circulator or circulating nurse within hospital settings;
Level I Trauma Center or teaching hospital experience preferred. - Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, sterile processing, and infection control practices.
- Experience with advanced procedures including cardiac catheterization, neuro or spinal surgeries, ophthalmology, or outpatient ambulatory surgeries is desirable.
- Competence in handling complex cases involving trauma medicine, critical care environments, or specialty areas like pediatrics or geriatrics.
- Ability to perform technical skills such as suturing, IV insertion/infusion, specimen collection/processing, and ventilator management.
- Excellent assessment skills with the ability to respond swiftly during emergencies; familiarity with airway management and acute pain management protocols.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to perioperative care and familiarity with hospital protocols including HIPAA compliance.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and patient education.
- Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are highly valued.
