Salary Range: $63.63 - $104.28 / hourly

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the critical role of on‑call Advanced Care Practitioner (PA‑C Lead/ARNP) for the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) located in Shelton, WA. Under the supervision of the Health Services Managers/Facility Medical Director, this position contributes to the agency’s mission to improve public safety by delivering quality health care to the facility patient population in a timely and professional manner, promotes healthy lifestyles, and provides patient health care education.

Responsibilities Provide direct patient care services
  • Diagnose health related problems and determine outcome.
  • Implement plan of care by providing direct patient care; directing others about urgency, time frames, and methods to deliver health care on and off site; determining when need for care or services become more urgent, need clarification, or another type or level of intervention; and taking action as necessary to provide orders and accomplish prescribed interventions in a timely and clinically responsive manner.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and suture of simple lacerations.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic laboratory tests, ECGs, and x‑rays.
  • Prescribe medications including controlled substances and buprenorphine as indicated.
  • Refer complicated and complex cases to staff physicians and outside medical consultants and facilities when necessary.
  • Admit and care for infirmary patients when needed.
  • Provide urgent and emergent medical care both in the infirmary and in living units or other facility areas.
  • When applicable manage a population of primary care patients in general population or in an intensive management/segregation unit.
  • Updates PULHES codes to reflect changes in the patients’ condition or circumstances.
Provide effective communication and documentation
  • Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and via computer or other electronic media with offenders, their families, other health care personnel custody, and other institutional personnel.
  • Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings, as well as the actions taken to deliver all aspects of health care.
  • Protect the confidentiality of health records.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care.
Other duties as assigned
  • Promote facility safety.
  • Attend all required training.
  • Manage email and ensure timely response as required.
  • Participate in Medical on Duty on‑call rotations.
  • Attend regular medical provider meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants.
  • Or must possess a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse and a current license designated as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Washington.
  • Must hold an unrestricted license to practice as a midlevel practitioner and prescribe scheduled drugs.
  • Licensure (PA‑C, RN, ARNP) must be valid and continuously unrestricted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working as a mid-level health care provider at a correctional facility. One year of working experience as an ARNP or PA.
