The Washington Corrections Center (WCC) within the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a detail oriented and committed individual to join the Records Unit as a Correctional Records Technician (CRT)! The goal of a Corrections Records Technician is to be a custodian of incarcerated individuals records while supporting the Records Unit.
As a Correctional Records Technician (CRT), you will independently perform correctional records technical tasks and sentencing structure duties within a correctional records office. Daily tasks could include calculating the length of incarceration, community supervision time, and/or determining release dates. You will ensure incarcerated individuals sentence structure information is in compliance with appropriate laws and agency policy in a collaborative effort to improve public safety.
This position will primarily be responsible for sentence structure entry; however, you will also provide back-up support to all other CRT positions within the Records office. Responsibilities- Entering sentence structure in accordance with court documents
- Audit judgment & sentences and other court documents to verify the court’s accuracy in sentencing incarcerated individuals per applicable RCWs and legislative changes.
- Correspond with appropriate court or other legal staff to resolve sentence discrepancies or other issues related to the structure of the incarcerated individuals’ sentence.
- Audit sentence structure for accuracy to verify earliest release date.
- Verify jail credits as ordered by the court or as certified by the county jail. Calculate good time jail credits as applicable per RCW.
- Utilize, update, and maintain database and programs containing information relative to incarcerated individuals’ conviction, sentence and violation history and verify accuracy of those legal documents.
- Using knowledge of sentencing options and types, determine supervision types and enter sentence structures in accordance with judgment and sentence or other court documents.
- Ensure the contents of incarcerated individual records are legal, accurate, and maintained in a secure setting.
- Interpret and explain applicable RCWs, WACs, agency policies and records processes.
- Interpret Supreme, Appellant, and Superior Court decisions, RCWs and Indeterminate Sentencing Review Board redeterminations to properly compute/re-compute release dates for individuals.
- Maintain electronic and physical files.
- Respond to Kites and KIOSKS per DOC Policy.
- Preparing incarcerated individuals file for transfer to Training Center/Parent Facility or release
