Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant will assist providers in care, medical record documentation, and treatment of patients. Obtain and process doctors orders. Provide good customer service on the phone, or with patients, doctors and other medical staff. Work well under pressure.

Responsibilities
  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the phone.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patients for health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room; provides examination gowns or shorts; assists them to position themselves, arranges exam room, instruments, supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and imaging are available in patients records prior to visit.
  • Supports patient care by assisting providers during exam; draws up medications for injections; completes records by recording examination, treatment and test results. Relays treatment plan to checkout receptionist.
  • Keeps exam room and injection station supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipt.
  • Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patients expectation.
  • Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
  • Provides age appropriate care.
  • Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
  • Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
  • Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
  • Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.
  • Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by office manager as necessary.
LPN
  • Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients that come to Machen Family Medicine.
  • Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy. This includes all age appropriate care including: pediatric, geriatric, and the general patient population. Assist in minor office procedures and appropriate medical screening exams.
  • Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratorys and the patient care units policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and performs tests in a timely manner and interpret results of waived test.
  • Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition using 5 medication rights.
  • Interacts professionally and treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to office manager, co-workers and physicians.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Is flexible, organized and functions under stressful situations.
  • Completes annual education requirements, adheres to infection control, safety guidelines, ethical business practices, and confidentiality policies.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings annually.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Qualifications

Education/Certification: Graduation from an accredited High school program or higher. Current BLS certification. Valid drivers license. LPN degree with associated IV therapy certification and drug administration certification within 60 days of hire, along with BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications as above. The LPN may substitute PEARS instead of PALS.

Experience: CMA course preferred, not required. Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy experience. 6 months required experience, 2-5 yrs clinical experience preferred.

Equipment/Technology: Experience with computers and office equipment, required.

Language/Communication: The ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must understand medical terminology.
